The Experiences Collection by National Geographic Traveller (UK) ON NEWSSTANDS NOW
London (3 December) — This winter, the Experiences Collection by National Geographic Traveller (UK) celebrates adventures that leave a positive impact, either by uplifting local communities or protecting our planet.
According to a 2024 Booking.com report, 75% of travellers want to travel more sustainably, while Allied Market Research predicts the global community-based tourism market will soar from £435bn in 2022 to £1.6 trillion by 2032. These figures demonstrate the growing appeal of meaningful, purpose-driven journeys.
In this issue, we head to the Scottish Highlands to learn how sustainable tourism initiatives — from the UK’s first Highland cow wellbeing experience to a monster-hunting adventure aboard an electric boat — are helping to safeguard this wild landscape for future generations. We also showcase the new raft of tour operators enabling travellers to give something back, whether they’re block printing with local artisans in India or making soap with First Nations people in Canada.
“It was a privilege to meet Joella Hogan, founder of the Yukon Soaps Company,” says editor Sacha Scoging. “Her workshops showcase traditional techniques and the cultural value of local plants, while illustrating how Indigenous knowledge can offer vital solutions for a more sustainable future.”
Elsewhere, we ride horseback through the mineral-coated canyons of Mongolia’s Gobi Desert, learn how to surf in Sri Lanka’s newest hotspot and map out the constellations in Portugal’s unsung region of Alentejo. All this, plus the ultimate collection of experiences, resorts and retreats to inspire you for your next escape.
